The Perfect Back to School Outfit

As we are all starting to get back in our school year routines, I wanted to share an outfit that I think is ideal for the school day.
Bright colors, comfort, and overall cuteness is essential for the start of the school year. So, for this outfit I paired these awesome embroidered jeans with an oversized button down shirt. I also slipped on my white Vans for some added comfort.

Pairing fun jeans with a simple shirt (or vice versa) is perfect for school.

Don't just pull out the first t-shirt you see and some boring, old jeans!! It's actually really fun and easy to dress cute for school! Try it out :)

A Reflection

I am currently sitting in my bed thinking about how in four days I will be starting my last year of high school. Which is absolutely mind blowing. I cannot believe how fast time flew by. So, I wanted to reflect on all the things that have gotten me to where I am right now. I honestly cannot wait for SENIOR YEAR! It will be a year filled with so many lasts that are leading up to thousands of firsts. So let's reflect...

I'm pretty sure it was just yesterday that I walked into my kindergarten classroom and met some of the people that would still be my friends to this day. I remember all of the high school seniors that would come in throughout my elementary years for their internships. I always thought they were so old and I could never fathom being in their shoes. I honestly don't even know if I knew what it meant to be a senior in high school. But, I did know that they were older than me, so that made them cool!
Then, in the blink of an eye, I started middle school. The whole summer before sixth grade I worried that I wouldn't know anyone in my classes, only to walk in to my English class on the first day to find that over half of the kids came from my elementary school. I met my best friend that year. Three years later I was a high schooler! I had finally made it to the big leagues. I honestly have no bad memories or anything in particular that sticks out from my freshman year. But, I do remember that I discovered my love for lectures that year. I also remember the awesome project on Princess Diana that I did that year. But, lemme tell ya... tenth grade was definitely one for the books.
As I began my Sophomore year of high school I was Student Body Secretary, a Student Ambassador, and an "integral" part of my school's debate team. And then in January I was up and outta there! *PAUSE* For those of you that don't know, I moved from North Carolina to Virginia in January 2016 (the middle of my Sophomore year). *RESUME* The days before I moved were honestly some of my favorite of that school year. One day I spent the afternoon with my bff after she had just gotten her license and chatted over lunch. A few days later I went with two of my closest friends to go see The Force Awakens! And then, that night I went to a trampoline park with three other friends and then to Panera's where we cried while eating some incredible mac n cheese. Two months later I was doing my school work on my computer. The second semester of my sophomore year was a whirlwind, but, truthfully, I wouldn't want to have done it any other way. I took two honors courses online. This, as you can probably imagine, did not allow me to make many, wait let me fix that, ANY friends. But, what it did allow me to do is fix myself. I honestly don't know how to phrase that better. Since I had lived in the same place for 15 years, with the same people, I had a reputation. Not in a bad way, but that's the best word I have for it. My classmates were people that I had known since I was five, so it was extremely hard to change. For example, at the end of my time in North Carolina I got glasses. I came into school with them on and everyone looked at me like I was an alien. But the things that I really wanted to change were bigger and harder. I had bad acne, I was very insecure, and I pushed people away. These were the things that I was able to fix in my time at home for seven months. I started using Curology, which cleared up my skin and I was able to stop wearing makeup for the first time in over four years! And because of my now clear skin, my insecurities went away and I started letting people in.
When I started my junior year at my new school, I was truly conflicted. I was obviously sad and nervous because I didn't know anyone and all of my friends were in a different state. But I was also a little happy, because I could start over. Nobody knew me here. I was able to be the real Lily. I could dress however I wanted without being looked at funny. I could walk into school with no makeup on and feel confident. And although that was, and still is, my favorite thing about being at a different school, it was not all glitter and sunshine. Junior year was the hardest year for me. Yes... I know... everyone says that junior year is the hardest. My academics were actually fine! It was my mental and emotional states.
My first month at this new school wasn't terrible. I was getting back into the rhythm of school and all. But, in October my school had Homecoming week. I went to the dance, mainly because I had to, since I am in SCA (student government), but this was the first time I actually realized my friends wouldn't be there and I felt sick to my stomach. To anyone that has seen the pictures of me from that night... I am sorry! I look like I am about to throw up, pass out, and never wake up. Honestly, that's how I felt, too. On my way to the dance I was crying. I cried in the parking lot. I cried on my way into the building. It was rough. Anyway, as the fall semester went on, I wasn't really making any friends. I was always stressed out because I missed my friends in NC and because of that I was not excelling in a few of my classes. I wasn't totally bombing my classes but I wasn't doing great and I know it's because I was preoccupied. The beginning of 2017 was absolute torture. Winter is always a gloomy time by itself but, I wanted to be in NC more than anything in the world. I don't think I have ever cried as much as I did from January-March! I was so sad all the time. I cried myself to sleep most nights. I cried on my way to school.
Then in March, one of the girls from SCA invited me to join her group for Ring Dance (Junior Prom). This definitely lifted my spirits. I went dress shopping with my mom and the day before the dance I got my nails done with the girls in the group. The dance was April 1 and Spring Break was the next week. I was actually happy.
Then, this Summer my bff joined my family and I on a cruise. While she was here, I spent 10 days talking with her about people at my old school, college, and literally everything. I loved every single thing about it! And it also made me realize that I was happy where I was. Because if I hadn't moved then who knows what would be different! I would probably still be friends with people who were bad for me and I may not be close with people who mean so much to me.
This Summer was also kind of strange because I was doing so many things for the second time. I was working as a camp counselor again, I was doing things with SCA again, and the other day I went up to my school to purchase my parking decal again. All three of these things were events that happened last year, but last year it was my first time doing it. And this year I was cool, calm, and collected about it all. It really is the little things folks!
I really do feel so comfortable and confident about what is to come of this upcoming school year. I am applying to colleges, thinking about the past 12 years and, coincidentally, listening to Thomas Rhett's new song "Life Changes"... which you all should check out!!
I really didn't intend on writing an essay... but it happened and if you read to this point then THANK YOU <3 Everything that has happened in my life has happened for a reason. The past year has been rough but I wouldn't trade it for the world. It has made me more appreciative, accepting, and open-minded. And thank you to everyone who has encouraged me and supported me.

As some of you may know, I purchased a Nikon D3400 for my birthday. I have been snapping pictures and doing little "photoshoots" with my sister lately. I love testing out different settings and seeing how my photos turn out.
Today, I will be sharing some pictures I got from our latest photoshoot :)
Also, make sure you check out my sister, Shelly's blog!! She will have all the information about her outfit and some other comments over there. So make sure you go check that out.

I am totally in love with the way these pictures came out. I love Shelly's outfit and the gorgeous green trees!!
I am hoping to start posting more like this and make parts of my blog a sort of "Digital Portfolio" to show you guys my photographs and give you some inspiration, too.

So, I hope you guys enjoyed this post.
Thank you so much for stopping by.

A Photographer's Perspective

Photography is such a cool thing! There are so many things that can be the subject. Anything from signs to food to people! I love that it is so versatile.

I am currently taking a photography class at my high school and it is so interesting! So far, this semester, I have used a pinhole camera and film cameras and then developed the film. This is by far one of the coolest things that I have done in any class. Coming up, I will be working with DSLR cameras and digital photography. This will take me over to Photoshop and allow for a new learning experience. I can't wait to learn more about digital photography and further my knowledge.

Kickin' it Old School: Crosley Record Player

I am so excited to share this post with you! A few months ago I purchased a Crosley Record Player at Marshall's for $40, I was thrilled! Since then, I have collected over 50 albums. Most of them are old ones from my mom and my grandpa. Also, some really cool ones from my cousin. To hold all of them,  I found a super cute table at Hobby Lobby. It works perfectly to display my albums, as well as some books and other trinkets. Then, I put my record player on top of my dresser and I think it looks so cute!

curology

Hi everyone! It has been so long... my apologies.
But, I just wanted all of you to know about this amazing stuff that I have discovered. You might be thinking now lily, what is this "stuff" and why on earth is it so amazing. Well, hold your horses i'm getting there!

As some of you may know, I have struggled with acne for quite some time now... like since 3rd or 4th grade! I have tried a ridiculous number of products that are specifically for acne and sensitive skin. Nothing has really worked. I even went to the dermatologist a few years ago and the medication that they gave me just irritated my skin to the point where it was just unbearable.

So, in March I was watching YouTube and looking at the newest videos and I saw this one with the title "I FINALLY Cleared My Acne". These kinds of videos really get my attention because I too am trying to clear my acne. So, of course I watched the video! The product that this YouTuber was talking about was this medication called Curology.

After I watched the video, listened to her review, and looked at her pictures, I decided to go check this stuff out. After further investigation, I finally ordered it.

Now, let me tell you how it works. First you go to curology.com and sign up for an account. When you sign up it will have you take a little questionnaire about your skin. After this they will pair you up with a dermatologist. This will be the person that you will talk to about your skin and the medication and you can ask them questions, as well. Once, this happens you will take pictures of your problem areas and this will help your dermatologist determine what ingredients need to be put into your medication. Lastly, if you decide to go through with this and order it, you will be charged $20 a month and this is for access to your online dermatologist at all times, as well as a bottle of medication delivered to your doorstep every three months (this can be adjusted if you run out before your three months is up).

Now let me just tell you... I started using this in March and my skin was extremely red and I had pimples and such all over my face and to be completely honest with you I hardly ever left my house without makeup on because I was, well embarrassed and insecure. But, it is now June and I am very comfortable leaving my house with a bare face! I really only have acne scarring left, which even that is fading.

I love this stuff so so much and I would recommend it to literally anyone and everyone!!

Jewelry Staples

Oh my goodness! It has been so long! I was out of town and super busy last week! Thanks for sticking around though!!!!!! :)
Let's get into today's post! YAY

Yes... I do have loads of jewelry but I really do not wear much of it (mainly because I don't go to school). But, I have three things that I wear all the time and they are things that I think everyone should have in their collection.

This piece is one that is new to my collection, but I love love love it! It's a sterling silver necklace with my name on it.
This is something that I think everybody needs, whether its a bar necklace, a monogram necklace, or this one (which is kind of a perfect mix of the other two). I got this for Valentine's Day from my parents and i've been wearing it everyday since. It goes with everything... which is AWESOME!

Not only does this bracelet have my favorite saying on it, but it is also super gorgeous. This is by far my favorite piece... EVER. It is from the company MantraBand and they sell bracelets with inspiring sayings on them. I love the bracelet and the company so so much.

Lily and Laura Bracelets are so great for adding a little something extra to your outfit. They come in literally every color and are very comfortable.

These four are my favorite and I wear them all the time! They roll right on to your wrist and are flexible, so you can wear them all the time.

Well, that's all folks ;)

much love, Lily

Cheesecake Factory

The other night my family and I went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. SO DELICIOUS. And of course I wanted to dress up for the little event.

I wore this flannel dress from Forever 21 that I got on sale!! And I paired it with some simple black tights and black booties that I got a while back from Old Navy (I linked a pair of booties from Old Navy that I found, but they are not the same ones).

I love this outfit so much because there are a bunch of ways that you can change it. You could throw on a scarf or a nice statement necklace for a different look.

Thanks for stopping by.
much love, lily :)

New Room Sneak Peak

Since our move to the new house, I have been on a never ending journey of finishing my room. Today I am going to give you a little sneak peak at one of my favorite parts so far.

In my room, I am going for a black, grey, and white theme. I am keeping it very simple.
This clothing rack is something that I have had my eye on for a long time, but I never had a place to put it. It is so perfect for displaying your favorite clothes and shoes.

On top of the clothing rack is an adorable hat rack. But, since I don't have hats, I decided to decorate it with some of my favorite things.

Next to my clothing rack I put a desk organizer, because it is the perfect size for what I want in it. I have a few of my favorite books, a photo album, and a mug that my mom made for me.

On top of the organizer I have another book and this gorgeous print that I got from Michael's a while ago.

I love this space so much and it fits right in with my personality and lifestyle. I hope this gave you inspiration for your own space :)

Cinderella

On Friday night, my sister, cousin, mom, and I went to see the Broadway production of Cinderella in Norfolk. It was absolutely amazing and I had a wonderful time!

For the play I decided to have some fun and get a little dressed up.

I paired this lovely tulle skirt, that I purchased from Uptown Cheapskate, with a black turtle neck dress! I am loving this combo. I also wore a black and silver necklace from Forever 21 and my nude flats from Target.

The glasses that I am wearing in this picture are from Warby Parker
